Voucher Spending Time

This week was the week I got my $50 Palmers voucher courtesy of work (thanks guys!). And yes, I spent it right away. The bulk of my voucher was used on the latest addition to my fruit plan: an ‘Aprigold’ dwarf apricot tree. Woohoo! It’s pretty young at the moment but it’s one step closer to fresh apricots. Then I had trouble deciding what to use the last $10 for. There was a lot of wandering around in the scorching sun and a lot of brain-stretching. Then I found something I have been wanting for some time: Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea ‘Helmond Pillar’. Well, the voucher covered half of it anyway. It is a rich purple-leaved shrub that grows in a very narrow, columnar fashion, hence the name. I don’t know who Helmond is though. I would like to have more of these to create some sort of stunning garden masterpiece one day, so I will try my hand at taking cuttings at some point. Man, I love vouchers!
